FR. LAWRENCE BREY'S TEN POINTS
Mini- Apologia pro Giuseppe Siri and the Siri Thesis

1. That Siri was very naive, during and after Vatican II - concedo! In fact, there are MANY unfortunate and "indicting" things about Siri, including his inaction after his reputed election.
2. That he (and consequently Lefebvre) may have been convinced as to the tenability of Vatican II, I might also concede. But at the same time, and in its immediate aftermath, HOW MANY faithful ecclesiastics and laymen were NOT convinced that Vatican II was a bonafide council? I don’t recall ANY who rejected it at that time, but many (including yours truly) were caught up in efforts to view the council as "basically" acceptable but as being erroneously "interpreted." OF COURSE, we all now know, from the present perspective, that V2 itself was uncatholic, and was a charter for a New Church.
3. It is understandable how even the conservative contingent of the council Fathers (including Ottaviani, Ruffini, Siri, etc.) perhaps from their perspective in the midst of the council Forest, were convinced that it necessarily had to be bonafide, etc., indeed it was called for and approved by "The Pope" himself. Even such hard-liners as the late Dr. Hugo Maria Kellner went through an evolution in these matters, holding originally to the validity and legitimacy of Vat. II and of Paul VI, but through force of evidence and study coming later to the conclusion of invalidity of both.
Note, if Siri was Pope, then he knew that The Pope did not approve, or did he? If Siri approved of Vatican II, this is sufficient to demonstrate he was not a Catholic and therefore not Pope.
4. Also, in such matters, even if Siri and other conservatives embraced certain (objectively) Vatican II positions at that time (e.g. religious liberty... etc.) The above must be kept in mind, and also the factor of subjective ignorance, good faith, and at worst, "material" (vs.. formal) heresy or error. These factors have ALWAYS been valid criteria of inculpability, etc., both in the external forum and in the internal forum (e.g. Sacrament of Penance).
5. In trying to save the day against the OUTRIGHT modernists on the Council floor, many of the conservatives even tried the tactic of using AMBIGUOUS language in many of the documents, so as to provide for an "orthodox interpretation". Of course this was folly, and not characteristic of traditional magisterial documents. I understand even Siri used or promoted this tactic.
Note Lefebvre excused Vatican II as ambiguous. Was it part of the plot to make thins ambiguous? Lefebvre intimated the liberals did this. If the conservatives did this, and Siri and Lefebvre were supposedly conservative, then they abandoned clear language in favor of obscurity, a Modernist tactic.
6. WOULD Siri have carried his compromises into the Papacy? Since they were NOT clearly formal heresies or a state of formal error on his part, but were largely naivete and "good faith" states of mind, they certainly would not as much as disqualified him from a valid papacy; and the Holy Ghost would doubtless have taken over in the way He always does with a true pope; even those with dubious beginnings such as Pius IX and Benedict XIV, began to act as POPE once elected. No one is saying that Siri would be another Pius X. (Neither was Pius XII, with his vacillations, or Pius XI, with his "liberal side").
7. It is a known fact that in the years following Vatican II, Siri has often spoke invectively and contemptuously about Vatican II, and insisted it would not bind him in recent years, there were reports that the churches in his diocese were not changed or re-configured, and that the old Mass was taught in his seminary. In fact, I was so emphatically aware of Siri’s intransigent stand, that long before I heard of the Siri-Pope thesis, I ranked him as one of the few faithful Catholic bishops, and was seriously planning to write him a long letter in Latin, about the crisis in the Church, encouraging some further action on his part on behalf of the universal Church. (By the way I had indeed heard more than once, about irregularities in the 1958 Conclave; as early as 1968 I heard this, and also reports that Roncalli was not truly elected, but another was. The name Siri was not in the reports that I heard, however. But the point of irregularity and of false election of Roncalli was. Roncalli, by the way, was the Kremlin's candidate for Pope at the 1958 conclave).
"Interesting enough, a Mr. Silvio Mattacchione, who is a documented Judaizer, and who has been working hand-and-hand with Hutton Gibson for at least the last six months, to attack the Pope Siri Reality — disseminated via email recently, writings of the cartoon "pope's" PR lady (Mrs. Benn's) to numerous Catholics, as part of his (Mattacchione's) overall dark campaign to defame a True Pope, His Excellency Gregory XVII.
8. Some of the loudest criticisms and rejections of Siri today come from certain ULTRA-hardline traditionalists, in many cases of the kooky variety. An example of the latter is a certain Mrs. Theresa Benns and a certain young David Bawden, who not only are much anti-Siri, but are staging and calling for a "conclave" as early as Holy Week, including mostly lay people as electors, to elect a pope (maybe Bawden or Benns!) A recent book, Can the Catholic Church Survive the 21st Century is authored by Mrs. Benns, probably with David’s collaboration, under the byline of T. Stanfield Benns [Mrs. Theresa Stanfield Benns]. Such a Kangaroo Konkclave (with apologies to the Australian K-Kars), would, of course, be a farce, and a laughing stock, and would bring discredit even on bona fide traditionalists and could even redound unfavorably on the Siri Project. [NOTE: subsequently to the original writing of this paragraph in early Spring, that "conclave" finally took place, in July, I believe, and David Bawden was elected "Pope Michael I," in Kansas].
9. Would or could the Siri project achieve any "palpable good"? IF, as you rightly emphasize, HARD PROOF AND DOCUMENTATION and a CLEAR CUT CASE could and would be brought forth, yes, it certainly would produce palpable good on at least two counts: (1) it would "set the record straight," and historically rectify the accounts of the vitiated conclaves; it would tear the mask off what Siri called the "horrible secret" of those conclaves; it would, moreover answer the question, "HOW could the present situation in the Church have happened? HOW, indeed, could Vatican II have happened?" It would show HOW the enemy was able to raise up an ANTICHURCH, a Shadow Church, while the true Church was literally evicted from the Vatican. (It MIGHT infuriate the Italian people that might rise up en masse to drive out that non-Italian IMPOSTER, Wojtyla. Ever stop to think that maybe one reason why he is so often traveling & absent from Rome is that he feels terribly ill at ease there, amidst all those Italians, Imposter that he is?) (2) Finally, a documented Siri thesis would be an important auxiliary to a process of restoration of papal succession. There is reason to believe that Siri DID perform some significant papal actions (after his reputed election) of the type that he could do quietly in guarded moments in spite of the surveillance and captivity under which he labored. One of these actions was to set a process in motion whereby one day, after his death, the papal succession would be restored. The logical minimal papal action to set such a process in motion would be to create new cardinals, something which he could do, in occasional private circumstances, secretly and/or in pecatore. There is indication from at least one witness (with whom Gary and I and others are in contact) that he actually did create these cardinals, and also designated a Camerlengo, and a code system whereby they could be contacted and summoned to conclave. There have been some obstructions and interceptions and perhaps human problems that have been causing delays in this hoped and prayed for action. But when it takes place as verified, the Siri Project documentation would go a long to vindicate such an election and clarify for the faithful the events that formed its background, thus distinguishing it from some upstart "Pope Clement" type papal claim or the recent "Kansas "Konklave."
10. I would be the last to disagree that in this most crucial investigative project there is a need for the utmost documentation and a watertight case. In obtaining and verifying such evidence the Siri project is most preoccupied. There already exist certain key documents reflecting the testimony of witnesses, including the Scortesco Letter. The late Paul Scortesco was a cousin of Prince Borghese of the Nobel Guard that was present at and witnessed the 1963 Conclave; the letter also dealt with a similar situation in the 1958 conclave.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
