Saint Alphonsus: “My God, because Thou art infinite goodness, I love Thee above all things; and because I love Thee I am sorry for above all things for having offended Thee.”
Saint Thomas Aquinas advises us: But when there is reason for urgency, the penitent should fulfill his own part, by being contrite.  (Supplement, Q8, A2)
