Rome Will Lose the Faith and Become the Seat of Antichrist

This is probably the most controversial phrase in the alleged Secret of La Salette. In the version published here as possibly the secret, this has been amended.  Rome will ... become the seat of Antichrist.  This is why Nicholas of Flue is quoted above.
The Church will be punished because the majority of her members, high and low, will become so perverted. The Church will sink deeper and deeper until she will at last seem to be extinguished, and the succession of Peter and the other Apostles to have expired.
Pope Leo XIII penned his Saint Michael's prayer: In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck the sheep may be scattered.  This alludes to the long interregnum from October 9, 1958 until July 16, 1990, during which time Antichrist usurped the Papacy.  It is interesting that the heretic, Marcel Lefebvre stated on July 30, 1988: You well know, my dear brethren, one must have told you of Leo XIII's prophetic vision revealing that one day "the See of Peter would become the seat of iniquity."
Further, do a search on the Internet, and this phrase come up on many sites to indicate the current condition of the Church.  And yet these same sites hold to the Traditionalist heresy.  Some hold to the proposition that Joseph Siri was Pope Gregory XVII. However, what is most interesting is that Lefebvre, the Sirianists and other Traditionalists all appeal to this same phrase, indicating a hidden unity among them.  Can we expect visible unity in the Traditionalist Church?
It is impossible for the Church of Rome to entirely lose the Faith, because it is impossible for the Roman Pontiff to defect from the Divine and Catholic Faith. So just what is the Church of Rome?  The Church of Rome is most likely the diocese of Rome and its Bishop, the Successor of Saint Peter, who is also the Head of the whole Catholic Church, because he is Bishop of Rome.
Pope Pius IX infallibly condemned the proposition: There is nothing to forbid that by the vote of a General Council or by the action of all peoples the Supreme Pontificate be transferred from the Roman Bishop and THE CITY (i.e. of Rome) to another bishopric and another city. (DZ 1735)  Although this statement does not say anything about the Pope moving the See of Peter, it is most likely that this is against the Will of God.  For two millennia the Roman Pontiff, that is the Bishop of Rome, has also been the Pope, the Successor of Saint Peter.
What those appealing to this phrase from the alleged secret of La Salette fail to do is to draw the logical conclusions.  Antichrist has come. An essential part of Antichrist's coming is the TOTAL CESSATION OF THE SACRIFICE OF THE MASS.  However, Traditionalists maintain that the Mass fails for everyone but themselves.  Traditionalists have redefined Sacramental Theology to state that priests are mere purveyors of the Sacraments.

Rome will lose the faith.  This is the controversial poprtion, which some claim denies dotrine.  On this site we have chosen merely to omit this part, since the rest appears fine, although there is much controversy about the secret itself,
We must first ask just what is the Church of Rome?
Urbs et Orbis, William Humphrey S.J., 1899, page 271-2: Hence the saying ‘Where the Pope is, there is Rome.’  It matters not where the Pope is located, or whether he lives in Rome, or has ever seen Rome, his title to the Papacy is his Bishopric of Rome.  He may be exiled to Avignon or St. Petersburg, to London or New York, but he remains always Bishop of Rome, and apart from that episcopate he would not be Pontiff.  It is not because he is Pope that he is Bishop of Rome, but it is because he is Bishop of Rome that he is Supreme Pontiff and Vicar of Jesus Christ.  The function of the electors, whoever they may be-the Cardinals, as at present, or others, as in times past-is to designate the person who is to occupy the vacant See of Rome.  The mode of designation has not been determined by God by any divine law, and so it remains free to be determined by ecclesiastical law.  But given lawful election, that is to say, election in accordance with laws laid down by preceding Pontiffs, the Bishop-Elect of Rome is by divine law Vicar of Christ, from Whom immediately he derives the primacy.  Hence the Roman Curia is not tied to the material city of Rome.  As in attendance on the Pope, and at the immediate service of the Pope, it remains, wherever it may be, the Roman Curia
Just as Rome will never fail, neither will the Church.

Pope Michael has forbidden any discussion of the Secret of La Salette until a formal decision can be rendered, as he did in a similar manner with the Third Secret of Fatima.

"Michael…who   standeth  for…thy  people," —  Dan. 12:1-12
The Church will be punished because the majority of her members, high and low, will become so perverted. The Church will sink deeper and deeper until she will at last seem to be extinguished, and the succession of Peter and the other Apostles to have expired. But, after this, she will be victoriously exalted in the sight of all doubters.    (Nicolas of Fluh 118 in Culleton, died 1487)
